Atlantic Technology Debuts System 6200 Speakers

Norwood, MA (July 31, 2003)--Atlantic Technology has introduced the System 6200 home theater loudspeakers, featuring the same acoustical and cosmetic flexibility developed for the company's flagship System 8200 at a significantly lower price. Thanks to Atlantic's C.O.R.E (Custom Optimized, Room Enhanced) technology, this system gives installers and consumers a suite of customization options that make it adaptable to both the sonic and aesthetic characteristics of any room.

The System 6200 features a full suite of modular speaker components delivered in Atlantic's duraBlac matte finish. For systems that will be displayed in the theater environment, optional accent panel kits are available in natural maple, Asian mahogany, cherry and high-gloss black finishes, or even in unfinished MDF that can be custom stained or painted to match any interior.

One of the most important variables in a quality home theater installation is the room itself, and the 6200 features a wide array of sonic adjustments to optimize the system to its environment. Each speaker incorporates adjustment and control options to compensate for differences in room properties and speaker placement, as well as adjustments for user-preference or variations in source material.

The 6200 L/C/R speakers are 2-way designs consisting of a 1-inch ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeter flanked by a pair of 6.5-inch, long-throw woofers. Each speaker features a trio of rear-panel controls to compensate for different acoustic environments and speaker placement. First, a HF Energy switch can be used to modify the tweeter's output slope to provide linear real-world response for acoustically "live" or "dead" rooms. Second, a Boundary Compensation switch adjusts lower midrange response to reduce the impact of placing speakers in a cabinet or directly adjacent to a TV screen. Lastly, mid- and high-frequency output can be shelved up for cases where the speaker is placed behind a perforated screen. The 6200 LR speakers have a street price of $2,200 per pair, and the 6200 C has a street price of $1,200.

The 6200 SR surrounds are switchable between dipole and bipole operation, depending on preference and source material. Each surround consists of two 5.25-inch woofers, and the same 1-inch silk dome tweeters as the front speakers. Surround channels are available in either matte white or duraBlac finish, and can be mounted on the wall or on matching optional pedestals. The 6200 SR speakers are available at a street price of $1,400 a pair.

For low bass reproduction, the System 6200 features Atlantic Technology's 6200 PEDSUB system, which employs a pair of 10-inch long-throw woofers in enclosures which also double as pedestals for the left and right front speakers. The PEDSUB system is powered by an outboard 350-watt SA 6200 servo-controlled amplifier, which features a variable parametric EQ with four preset program EQs, variable trim level control, and a 4-position phase switch. The included remote can be used to control the SA 6200 settings via an IR sensor mounted in the pedestal itself.

The Atlantic Technology 6200 is currently available at system prices ranging from $6,600 to $11,000, depending on configuration and finish options.
