MPSE Honors Don Hall

Los Angeles (October 8, 2003)--The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) have chosen to present their Career Achievement Award to legendary sound editor Don Hall for his outstanding contributions to the art of sound. The award will be presented at the 51st annual "Golden Reel" Awards to be held February 28 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

Don Hall is a founding member of the MPSE. He has been a sound editor on over 90 feature films spanning five decades, including A Walk in the Clouds, M*A*S*H, and Young Frankenstein. He has received three MPSE Golden Reel Awards, a BAFTA Award for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, two Emmy Awards and a Peabody award.

Among the filmmakers who have worked with Don are Robert Aldrich, Irwin Allen, Alfonso Arau, Hal Ashby, Peter Bogdanovich, Mel Brooks, Michael Crichton, Michael Curtiz, John Frankenheimer, William Friedken, Ron Howard, Norman Jewison, Otto Preminger, Burt Reynolds, Michael Ritchie, George Roy Hill, Franklin Schaffner, Sylvester Stallone, John Wayne, William Wyler and Peter Yates.

"Don represents the consummate professional. In addition to being a brilliant sound editor, he brings a warmth to his work that is unmatched. He has also been a mentor to innumerable students of sound, " MPSE president David Bondelevitch stated.

Hall has served on the Board of Governors of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Sound Branch. He served as the Chair for the Sound Editing Award Rules Committee, the Vice Chair for the Student Academy Awards and is a member of the Scientific-Technical Committee. He is also is a Lecturer at the USC School of Cinema.

Previous recipients of the award include Kay Rose, Chuck Campbell, Fred Brown, Don Rogers, and Jack Foley.
