Apogee Line Array Used at Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon

Petaluma, CA (October 8, 2003)--A total of 26 loudspeakers from Apogee Sound International were used to provide sound reinforcement in the studio during the 38th annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon held on Labor Day weekend.

The show originated from CBS Television City in Hollywood and was seen on some 200 stations nationwide. Telethon organizers conducted a "Stars Across America" talent search for America's freshest singers, dancers, comedians, bands, and novelty acts. The show, presented in front of a studio audience of 450, also featured its traditional roundup of celebrities and well-known performers whose appeal spans many generations.

The Apogee equipment included twelve ALA-5 Line Array loudspeakers, eight AE-2 Wide Angle Loudspeakers, and six Apogee SSM Compact Loudspeakers.

The result was a "grand success," according to Bruce Burns, president of Innovative Audio Technologies, Inc. and Audio Coordinator of the Telethon for the past 23 years. "I got a letter from the producers congratulating us on the great sound and flawless performance of the system and the crew. They said it was the finest sound they've ever had for this event."

Burns contracted with ProMix/PRG to provide the house system, which was designed by engineer Bill Daly. Daly, who has worked as a system sound designer and live mixer for Survivor, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, noted that Apogee line array speakers were used for the Telethon from 1998 through 2001. "Another manufacturer's speakers were used for last year's show, but the coverage was uneven and the sound quality was not nearly as good," Daly said, "so the producers asked us to use the Apogee line array again this year."

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. The Association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors.
