Streisand, Reitzas Mix Latest Project in Stereo and Multichannel SACD

Los Angeles (October 21, 2003)--Multi-Grammy-winning engineer David Reitzas recently worked in the studio with Sony Music recording artist Barbra Streisand on her just-released LP, The Movie Album. The album was released in both stereo and 5.1 multichannel SACD.

Recorded at Sony Scoring in Culver City, Reitzas relied on a vast collection of Audio-Technica, Neumann, Sennheiser, Royer, Coles, AKG, B&K and Telefunken mics to capture the 75-piece orchestra. Reitzas states, "Nine of the 12 songs were recorded entirely live with no overdubs. We recorded through a Neve V-Series console using NTI, GML, Avalon and Millennia mic pres. Barbra sounded amazing on the Neumann M 49, and I didn't need to do much. I ran her vocal through a Tube-Tech compressor. Everything was recorded into Pro Tools HD at 24-bit/96 kHz with the Digidesign 192 converters."

Reitzas was also very pleased with the performance of the Genelec speakers he used in both the stereo and 5.1 SACD mixes. He confides, "We used the Genelec 1031s which Barbra owns and the 1032s which I own. They're very accurate-sounding speakers. We didn't have to do much in mastering."

Another favorite of Reitzas' was his Pro Tools rig where he made the most of the new Massive Pack during the mix. He says, "People may be surprised to know that I did the stereo mixes entirely within Pro Tools using the Massive Pack (MDW) Massenburg Design Works EQ at Grandma's House Studios, which is Barbra's living room. There was no control surface involved, only a keyboard and mouse. I was very confident to mix inside the box because of the great EQs that the Massive Pack provides like their MDW EQ."
