News New Studio Focuses on High-Def Recording Whitefish, MT (October 27, 2003)--A new Montana recording facility--scheduled to open in spring, 2004--Lookout Studios has already shown its commitment to high-end recording gear through many of its equipment purchases. The studio will feature a main recording area equipped with an SSL XL9048 K series analog console, plus on-line delivery systems designed to provide Internet streaming. Recently, Lookout owner, Brett Allen, reported purchasing a pair of Genex Audio GX9048 48-track and a single GX9000 8-track multi-format digital systems for the facility as well. "We are a private facility that will experiment with modern production and streaming of data transfer over the Internet," Allen, who owns the facility with his father, confides. "The studio will be for our personal use, in addition to selected professional clients and nonprofit organizations. We envision archiving and recording sessions, and webcasted house concerts." Regarding his choice of recording hardware, 24-year-old Allen plans to spotlight the enhanced audio quality offered by multichannel DSD, one of the major features offered by the new Genex Audio GX9000 series multi-format recorders. "The Genex systems are a key factor to the uniqueness of our studio," he shares. "Our new SSL console offers an extended bandwidth performance, and was designed with DSD in mind. And our network-based server will have the ability to provide simultaneous multi-format webcasts." In essence, Allen is building Lookout Studios as "a high-technology, server-based facility with first-class acoustics and audio/video technology." Allen says that he conducted a number of DSD listening tests with the Genex GX9048. "We needed a solid multichannel format, and wanted to go beyond the conventional PCM-based digital audio," he offers. "We like what we hear from DSD--it's an outstanding acquisition format. And the Genex GX9048 systems offer a choice of sampling rates to 24/96 and 24/192, in addition to 1-bit DSD. The ability to run 96-channel capacity in either PCM or DSD mode--or both--using just a pair of GX9048 machines is very exciting for us." Tom Paddock, CEO of the San Francisco-based Sonic Focus, and David Schwind, VP of Charles Salter Associates, are handling acoustic and systems design for the new facility. Lookout Studios |
