Future Sonics provided its custom Ear Monitors and systems for each aspect of the pre-game show, beginning with the performance by Alicia Keys and followed by the Fox on-air broadcasters, and then later on, with the the halftime show by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Meanwhile, on the wireless mic front, Shure got to see its Shure UHF-R wireless put through its paces by American Idol champ Jordin Sparks, who sang the National Anthem. Sparks' father, Phillippi, once played for the New York Giants, and with the game held at the University of Phoenix stadium just a few miles from her home, she was a natural for the high-profile gig. Keys, too, used a Shure UHF-R wireless during her warm-up stint. While the FCC was undoubtedly watching the game closely (thankfully there were no wardrobe malfunctions for Mr. Petty or the various Heartbreakers), one hopes the governing body noted the preponderance of wireless audio systems used for the event. With the FCC currently testing the performance of controversial prototype television white space devices, much of the pro audio community is concerned about the testing as wireless microphones, personal monitor systems and other equipment may be affected by the outcome of the tests. As a side note, that testing is open to observation by the public, so those interested in observing should contact Patricia Goff at (301) 362-3001 or by e-mail at Patricia.Goff@fcc.gov.
